Please join Silke Akerson for a workshop on August 22nd in Ashland on how to use peer review and case review effectively as tools to improve your practice, better your charting, and protect yourself from audits and complaints. Many of us are most familiar with a storytelling form of midwifery peer review and are on a learning curve about how to become comfortable with the tool of more focused case review/chart review. In this workshop we’ll look at the research on peer review best practices, discuss the necessity and the many benefits of regular peer review for midwives, and spend time thoroughly reviewing one of my charts in the large group and one of your charts in small groups. My hope is that each participant will come away feeling empowered to request and facilitate effective case reviews as needed in her region.
Every midwife participant must bring one complete and de-identified copy of a client chart to review with another participant. The chart does not have to be a complex case as there is a lot to learn from even the most straightforward chart. Student midwives do not need to bring a chart.
